AN ANALYSING OF MY BODY OF WORK
MY NATURE AND IDENTITY Androgyny: growing up I naturally seem more feminine than my male counterparts, in the way that I looked or spoke or expressed myself. At first it was a girly voice, then girly eyes, and girly hobbies, my adolescent figure, and everything else. But internally I always felt quite androgynous inside, thankfully I never allowed others to diminished that sense of myself. Then theres my racial ambiguousness, Almost everyday it was ‘what are you?’ Where are y

Runway Day
PROS: It went great. We expressed ourselves, got our messages through, my original outfit turned out just like my drawing! CONS: My whole other outfit malfunctioned on the day, the dress ripped and the clip of the headpiece got stuck. So l only had one outfit which is completely fine, it just sucked that l could’t express that other side or other narrative of myself which l explained previously in my blog, for it was meant to captivate the audience the most. The biggest con h

PROCESS BEHIND MY WORK
My outfit centers around liberation and resistance, but also love and appreciation for my heritage and the diaspora, fusing punk with and traditional middle eastern cultural attire. Fit 1 JACKET: The jacket is my most successful piece despite being the most difficult to create due to my inexperience with making clothes. HEADRESS: JEANS To be honest there is no point in me including the jeans. Fit 2 HEADPIECE: GOWN: This outfit was much more simpler to make but l had no idea w

MAKEUP
We allocated time today to experiment with makeup we are going to perform in. Most don't take into consideration the cosmetic aspect of fashion and how makeup can make all the difference. As mentioned before we were very inspired buy the recent Margiela runway which showcased a range of beautiful porcelain makeup looks by Pat McGrath. So I decided to buy the same Cucumber peel off mask which we intended to water down and spray onto our skin just like McGrath did with her mode

MY MESSAGE TO THE DIASPORA : LOVE AND LIBERATION
For the past few weeks I have struggled quite a bit with creative block which has left me a bit behind my group. But recently I discovered a fellow Iraqi artist who I resonate with and inspired me to look within my roots. THE ARTIST Afadedrose.work/store <——— her website Maryam, otherwise known as Afadedrose, is an Assyrian/Kurdish oil painter who explores the delicate boundary between surrealism and pop art. As a refugee from Iraq, she found solace and purpose in a medium

INTERVIEWS
UNDERSTANDING THE NATURE OF MY GROUP MATES. I INTERVIEWED EVERYONE TO BUILD MORE INTEGRITY AND DEPTH INTO OUR INDIVIDUAL THEES, AS WELL AND MAKE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN OURSELVES AS WELL. I ALSO JUST WANTED TO GET TO KNOW EVERYONE BETTER. THIS IS A SUMMARY OF WHAT I GOT WHICH WILL HOPEFULLY GIVE SOME GUIDANCE FOR EVERYONE: SARA no originality in South Asian clothing since the 90s People/ companies constantly changing things to make in more palatable for certain audiences, consume

PERFORMANCES
In my own time I spent most of my day just looking at all kinds of performances for research purposes and inspiration, since our group does not yet have a fleshed out idea of what we’re going to do. I had to delve into my memories to find some of these, and others I looked out into the world. I find fusions of traditional, digital and the theatrical the most interesting. JOSHUA SERAFIN Joshua Serafin is a Filipino maker, artist and. performer whome I just came across and fell

Devising a Story
Our challenge as a group is to start devising THE story/narrative behind our project. This could be done through writing, sound, visuals, movement and other effective forms of communication. Furthermore we had to understand what it means to "divise' before all else; to contrive, plan, or elaborate; invent from existing principles or ideas : to devise a method e.g Theater - to develop (a play) collaboratively with the performers: This was a struggle because our objects are so

Performance Lab
Today is the start of our new module, Performance Lab. Beforehand our class was given the task to bring in an object which is personal and makes a sound, yet is not an instrument; it's quite a vague task but it made our outcomes ever more interesting. This is what me and my group brought in: Rae - Cat ornament Serrell - Bracelet made from can tabs, my 2 favourite mechanical pencils and acorns from Iraq ( I couldn't decide what to bring lol ) Helen - Bottle caps Sara - Novelty
